Seeking Balance

What’s the essential action of healing?  What is the action part of the healing process?

It is to restore balance.

Anytime we are sick or ill there is some type of balance that has been disrupted.  And it is nature, the natural course of things, to come back into balance.  If you have been in the self-help world you know that a lot of healing comes from positive self-talk, and there have been many, many, great healers and teachers who have taught us about positive self-talk and what that can do for us in our lives; positive affirmations, the law of attraction thinking, what we see ourselves becoming, thinking things better than what we normally feel about ourselves.  This is very good and I believe that the reason this came about was because we were swinging way over, into negative thinking.  When have swung hard over into negative self-talk we need to talk more positively about ourselves to get back into balance.

Screenshot 2014-03-07 10.54.00I’m going to take it a step further and say that only doing positive self-talk, trying our hardest only to see the positive view of life, is likewise out of balance, on the other side.  It is hard, impossible actually, to attain a ball staying in the air without my hand holding it up.  It’s going to want to come back into balance.  Whether it’s on the positive side or the negative side it’s going to gravitate towards the middle.

What does that mean for us in our lives, our relationships, and love?  It means that healing and life is about wholeness, not all negative, not all positive.  It’s about the whole of life.  Generally it feels better to be positive.  It feels better to be happy.  It feels better to laugh than to cry, but does that mean something’s wrong if we’re crying and not laughing.  No. God created our tears too.  It’s all the part of the wholeness of life.

So what I would encourage you to look at in your own life is, how tolerant are you of your own self-doubts or your own moments where you are not only in positive mode?  Because if you feel like you can only be in this positive state all the time, you’re going to be chasing that dangling carrot and you’re going to be feeling badly about yourself, because you can’t reach that all the time.  We want to swing back in balance.  What’s more, when you attract love into your life it’s because you are, open, whole, and real, vulnerable and real.  And what’s real is someone who can appreciate the fullness and the wholeness of life.  The storms and the sunshine.

SunshineI’d like you to take a look at and maybe ask yourself, do I set myself up for failure by feeling like “I’m not thinking positively all the time, and I’d better fix this.  I just need to think that I’m going to be great, and then feeling like crap about yourself because you don’t?  Or can you say, you know what, I don’t feel very good today and that’s okay.  I’ll feel better tomorrow, and that’s okay.

The pendulum will always seek balance.
