Hug a Teddy

Heather Hans

When was the last time you hugged a teddy?  I don’t mean a sexy teddy!

HugaTeddyA teddy bear, a stuffy.

My son said to me one time, I love hugging my stuffed animal because it makes me feel like I’m not alone.  Children are genius.  They are incredibly resourceful creatures and we can learn from them.

Teddies make us feel like we are not alone.  There are a lot of people alone in the world, either in form or in essence.  Really we’re all alone.  We’re born alone.  We die alone.  Whether we’re in a partnership or not we have moments of loneliness.  When you are up in the middle of the night feeling alone and feeling like you are in your darkest hour, hug a teddy.

I like offering practical, concrete tips to feel love in your life.  You may think this is nothing or it’s minor or insignificant, but everything in this world is here for you to use to the highest good.  Stuffed animals were made for a reason.  They were made to comfort children, and they are very comforting.  They are soft.  They engage our senses.  They look like they are alive with their faces and their bodies, and they are really here to provide comfort.

It doesn’t matter what you do to nurture yourself, when you’re not harming anyone, but you are helping yourself.  You can walk right into that store and purchase your teddy like you’re buying it for a child.  Take it home.  Keep it with you for the next time you wake up in the night.

But don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself.  There’s a difference between hugging a pillow and hugging a teddy.

Teddies!!!
