Are You Patient Enough for Success?

“Some days you whips the bear, and some days the bear whips you.”  Do you ever feel like you’re moving along towards success, but you’re not reaching your goal?  Do you ever feel like giving up?  I don’t know anyone who doesn’t.  Maybe there are those few people out there who never feel discouraged.  I do not know them, and I am not a coach who looks for results by yelling “Let’s go! DO IT, DO IT, DO IT.”  That is not my style.  I DO know that success takes patience.

I recently attended a seminar where we talked about how impulsiveness leads to negative emotions.  When we are impulsive it is often because we are impatient, and the negative emotions our impulsive actions lead to can make us feel defeated.  Whenever we are going towards some goal, no matter what that goal is, it takes patience.  We must ride the waves, up and down, because surely there will be down days along with our up days.  That is the way life is, and certainly that is the way it is towards reaching a goal.  Reaching goals is not straight up without challenges or delays. It is an up and down process.  When we can be patient and ride through those waves we reach our goals.

What does it take to be patient?  How can patience be improved?  Many researchers have established that exercise, meditation, and a clean works space all improve patience.  When our body, mind, or area is cluttered it is hard to feel calm and at ease, and we can become agitated more easily.  There is another contributor that affects many of us in this world lately:  technology. Technology actually causes us to be less patient because we are constantly interrupted and bombarded with emails, internet, calls, and texts, so much so that many people do not know what to do with themselves with just a few minutes of time without checking their email or social networks on their phone.  This diminishes our level of patience.  It makes us feel anxious and fidgety.

How patient are you, and is your level of patience interfering with your ability to see results?
