Are your thoughts wimpy?

I am not a “Yeah, yeah, do it, do it, do it,” kind of a coach.  That is not my style.  I will say that success comes from developing a mental toughness. By a mental toughness I mean that if you want to succeed in whatever you are doing, whatever it is that you want to succeed, you must expect to.  Expect to and not wonder, “Am I really going to do it?” “Am I worthy?” “Can I?” “Am I as good as them?”  That’s wimpy!  You must expect to…move into that house or get a degree, even though no one in your family has.  Of course you are going to develop a good relationship with someone even though relationships in your past have fallen flat. Of course. Period.

Every great leader has known this.  They have known that in order to succeed you must visualize what you would like and know that you’re moving towards it. Period.  Everything that happens in life, everything that you manifest in your life, starts with a thought.  If our thoughts are wimpy, if our thoughts are uncertain, if our thoughts are insecure or if we shrink and feel powerless, then that is what we manifest.  We manifest the shaky ground.  If we know what we want and we expect to achieve it we do. Period.

Self Control

How do you do this if you are used to having wimpy thoughts?  Always the first step to change is self-awareness.  You must learn to know when you’re having a wimpy thought.  When you catch yourself saying, “I knew I couldn’t,” “I don’t think I can,” or, “I wonder if this can really happen,” catch it.  Recognize the wimpy thought, put it aside, and open up for a new thought. Next!  Go back to the vision of what it is that you do desire in your life.  What you desire is here at point A.  You are here at point B, and all that needs to happen to get from point to point is to put one foot in front of the other with the certainty that you are moving in that direction and you will reach that point.  Just like when you get in your car and you drive somewhere, you are certain, God be willing, that you will get there.  You get in your car, start your car, drive down the street, sometimes many streets or the highway, but you know where you are going, and it may take some time, but you get there.  What if you got in your car and thought, I don’t know if I can do this?  You back out of your driveway and then stop while thinking “I can’t do this.”  It’s going to take you a lot longer to get there.

I am certain you can reach any goal you have.  I am certain about that.  Are you certain?  Keep moving one foot in front of the other and keep that image in your mind and push all the wimpy images out.  They are wimpier than you.  You have more power than you realize!
